Fred Oliveira – Fred is a partner at Webreakstuff, a consultancy/think tank specialized on products and apps. He is also a mentor at 500 Startups, an incubator and investment fund out of California. He was formerly at Techcrunch and a founder of the now extinct Web 2.0 Workgroup. He is a frequent conference speaker and startup advisor.

Hugo Garcia – Hugo Garcia is graduated in Marketing by IADE and has a post-graduation in Foresight, Strategy and Innovation in ISEG. During University he was self-employed teaching martial arts for some extra money, and has recently worked for Quotidian Research as an Innovation Consultant. Currently he organizes Foresight Workshops, where participants explore trends and Future Scenarios.

Jorge Freitas – Jorge Freitas was born in Matosinhos in 1971 and with 16 years old he was already a radio journalist and at the age of 20 lectured at INED high school. Bachelor in Journalism and with a degree in Communication Sciences from the University Fernando Pessoa, founded the communication training school Falatório and did a post-graduation in Communication Law from the University of Coimbra. Since 2009 he is a trainer – Speakers Trust and Speak Out Challenge – and for over 11 years he has been a teacher of public speaking techniques, has been invited to several conferences and seminars on communication sciences. He is also author of the book 7 Segundos, a arte de falar em Público and has trained over 15 thousand people all over the country. Currently is dedicated to a course in High Performance Training in Communication.

Luis Quental Pereira – Initially trained as an industrial designer, he has post-graduate studies in business and design. More than 20 years of professional experience in managing innovation and creativity. He worked as an industrial designer for manufacturers such as Vulcano (Bosch) in Portugal and Steelcase in the US. He was HCI Director at IconMedialab (now LBi). Today he is managing partner atQuotidianwhere he has been working for clients in banking, telecommunications and retail, among many other industries. The approach we now call “design thinking” is underpinned in an attitude of exploration and search. Search for opportunities among real needs that people may have. Search of solutions that are technologically buildable. Finally, search for economically viable ways to implement and deliver those solutions. As in design, it is people that must be put at the center of this search: it is by exploring their everyday living that strategic opportunities are identified and it is by allowing their participation in the creation and in the production that we are able to invent tomorrow’s new sustainable meanings.

Manuel Pelágio – Manuel Pelágio is Director of Making Leaders. Manuel left Portugal at the young age of 18 to go to Brazil. This was the beginning of his global learning process. This small step led to a Bachelor in Business Management in 1982 in Pontíficia Universidade Católica. Then he came back to Portugal to do an executive MBA in 2003 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, followed by a post-graduate degree in Marketing in 2007 at Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão, culminating with an Advanced Management Program in 2009 at Harvard Business School in Boston, USA. After Harvard everything changed with his new project, Making new Leaders, that helps companies and people to find natural competences and talent. Manuel is also an entrepreneur and a professional with a vast experience in Business, Strategy, Marketing and Leadership. The international environment and his life experience created an all new perspective in the perception and comprehension of societies and cultures, creating his own human vision of living and working.

Miguel Coelho – Miguel has a degree in Economics by Nova University in Lisbon and participated in the MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management (Holland). At PersonalBrands® Portugal, where as CEO – Chief Entusiast Officer and Certified Specialist in Personal Branding he helps develop Brand Alignment and Internal Brand Strategies, there is a focus on the development of the personal brand of executives and entrepreneurs and also the coordination between the corporate brand and the personal brand. He is also a speaker in Marketing, HR and Branding events, having several published articles in various reference publications.

Miguel Muñoz Duarte – Miguel is Curator of Ignite Portugal, a series of inspiration events that consist in periodic gatherings to share 5 minutes talks with 5 minutes talks about innovation, creativity, technology and entrepreneurship and co-founder of iMatch – Innovation Ignition, a Business-Creativity and Innovation collaborative-consultancy company dedicated to inspire ideas/solutions and ignite the human side of innovation. Since 2008, he has helped to create inspiration and ideas, engagement and creativity skills for several brands and companies. He is a PhD student in creativity/innovation and invited entrepreneurship teacher in ISCTE-IUL University.

Paulo Sousa Marques – Paulo has a large experience in Management, particularly in Retail, in 3 major companies, especially at Toys “R” Us (Country Manager since 1992). He has extensive expertise in Negotiation and in Franchising. Paulo also has a vast experience as Consultant, mainly in Interim Management also involving six Startup’s and four Turnaround situations. In addition Paulo has several years of experience as University Professor and Lecturer in Marketing, Negotiation and Entrepreneurship at ISCTE.

Mentors:

Ana Casaca – Ana is currently the Head of Innovation at CUF. Her background is in Microbiology, and she has a Post-graduation in Intellectual Property and a MBA. Building bridges between people of different disciplines is her goal as a “corporate intrapreneur”. She’s passionate about enabling people to do more and/or new things. She’s more a generalist than a specialist which helps her to bridge different areas of expertise and to match ideas and opportunities in various settings. She has strong inter-personal and trans-disciplinary functional skills developed over 10 years of experience in technology transfer and Intellectual Property.

André Marquet – André interests range from telecom software engineering to product design. André has worked with the main telecom vendors, as product manager and systems engineer, including for Huawei, a leading Chinese telecom vendor, and for Nokia Siemens Networks, also a telecom maker. He earned a degree on telecom engineering, and also an MSc from ISCTE, and has authored several papers on telecommunications. He has also been granted with national and international patents related to automatic video quality estimation while working as a researcher for ADETTI, a university research center. He has been running TEDxEdges, the first TEDx in Portugal, since 2009 and is a co-founder and board member of Beta-i, an accelerator aiming to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and a proud partner of Startup Pirates in Lisbon.

António Murta – António is a Managing Partner and co-founder of Pathena. Also, António serves as a Non Exec Board Member of 2 companies of Pathena’s portfolio. António has a degree in Systems Engineering from Minho University, MBA from the ISEE (University of Porto), AMP from INSEAD. Has also done post-graduate studies at ISEE and MIT. From 1991 to 1997 he was Corporate Information Officer of Sonae Distribuição, the largest Portuguese retailer. He founded and was CEO of Enabler from 1998 onwards – Enabler was a systems integrator strictly focused in Retail. This company was acquired by Wipro in 2006 and from then to the end of 2009 he was VP of Retail Services at Wipro. He is also a founding partner of various other IT companies connected – Mobicomp (now part of Microsoft), ITPeers, Profimetrics, QuiiQ, Cardmobili. António is also a Member of the General Board of University of Minho and he collaborates with COTEC Portugal.

Celso Martinho – Celso Martinho is a co-founder of SAPO, the first Portuguese Search Engine and Web Directory. SAPO is now the biggest and leading Internet Portal and ISP in Portugal, providing ADSL broadband and dialup Internet access services and was integrated in Portugal Telecom group. He is currently the head Director for the Product Technology department. Celso also founded the startup mail.pt. Celso has an electronics major from Aveiro University and he enjoys leading talented IT teams, exploring new technologies and being alert for the emerging.

David Braga Malta – David Braga Malta is CEO and co-founder ofCell2B: a biotechnology start-up dedicated to the development cell therapies that prevent and treat organ rejection. David is a PhD candidate in Bioengineering in the MIT Portugal Program, Portugal. David holds a M.Sc. Degree in Biological Engineering, Instituto Superiror Tecnico, Portugal. During his master David lived in London and attended the Imperial College of London as a visiting scientist. During his PhD David was at MIT working on stem cell based therapies. His academic career focuses of the field of regenerative medicine. One of his greatest passions as always been entrepreneurship. David has participated and been awarded in different competitions. The project that he is involved now Cell2B has received the BES Innovation award 2011, a 60,000 euros award and the ArriscaC award a 25,000 euros award.

Diamantino Costa – Diamantino Costa co-founded Critical Softwarein 1998 and currently is CEO of Critical Ventures SCR and Critical SGPS. He’s Director of Critical Materials, Critical Health and Critical Manufacturing. He was formerly in charge of Business Development for Aeronautics, Space, Defense and Transport markets at Critical Software, supervising European business operations. Dino holds a BSc and an MSc in Informatics Engineering and Computer Systems Architecture from the University of Coimbra. Dino has been a researcher at the Dependable Systems Group at the Center for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra since 1993 and prior to joining Critical Software. During his research activities, he has been author of more than 20 papers on conferences, workshops, magazines, and book chapters on the subject of computer software dependability.

Fernando Mendes – Fernando is passionate about Entrepreneurship, Traveling, Diversity, Friends and Family, Customer Service, Benfica and Football, Wine, Books, Ideas, Public Governance, Food, R&V, Diving, Nature and everything still to be unvealed… not necessarily in this order. He is co-founder of OnSpot Marketing, CoWork Lab, Q21, ArmazemL.com and a few other ventures in Portugal and Mozambique.

Gonçalo Catarino – Gonçalo is a 36-new guy with an Infinite Curiosity about People, Ideas, Design and Music. A Designer at heart for the last 15 years and starting with the basic secrets of graphic and web design work in small design studios, he climbed his way into being Web Art Director and Creative Supervisor for online campaigns at Ogilvy (Advertising Agency), where he has won several awards working for global brands like Ford, Nestlé, and BP, among others. He currently runs his own Design Studio called “96 ’til Infinity” where he helps companies and startups from all over the world creating or improving their products and services, thru “The ways of” Ideation, Product Strategy, Branding and Promotion Design GōngFu. At 96 ’til Infinity he also helps individuals turning beautiful “Wouldn’t it be nice?” ideas into real “Wow. This shit is amazing!” projects. He’s also Director & Co-Founder at Weddar, a people powered weather service and a musician who loves life.

Hugo Macedo – Electronic Engineer turned Corporate-Marketeer turned Entrepreneur and wanna be Venture Instigator – From Procter&Gamble to Sonaecom till joining as partner and COO of a once start-up now multinational ActualSales, in 15 years of experience Hugo as managed areas from IT, Marketing, Sales, Finance and HR. But his main area of expertise (and passion) is Consumer Marketing and Internet Business. He is also founder of Beta-i (NGO for the promotion of entrepreneurship), Director at João Sem Medo Entrepreneurship Center & Startup Mentor. He is currently active in launching a start-up and preparing to launch another while assisting many other entrepreneurs in their own venture. Hugo likes to see the world with a helicopter view but looks deeper when it comes to human behavior and team dynamics. Always looking for the consumer mind set, market and strategic opportunities he is obsessed with crystal clear value propositions and positioning.

Marco de Abreu – His motto is “Entrance forbidden to those who aren’t amazed by their existence”, taken from a book he carries since he was 15, “As aventuras de João Sem Medo” de José Gomes Ferreira. An Informatics Engineer graduate, he launched Safira in 1997. In 2005 he creates darwin, an information systems company pioneering the design of systems based on “Organizational Design and Engineering”, today an ecosystem of startups. In 2011 he founded ONE Perfect Movement and João Sem Medo Center for Entrepreneurship. Integral Person. Father. Entrepreneur. Passionate. Likes to inspire and to be inspired. On João Sem Medo Center for Entrepreneurship he is a leader, a mentor, a coach and the philosopher.

Pedro Falcão – Pedro has a Degree in Information Technology Engineering and MBA by UNL. He is Investment Director at Novabase Capital and was previously Investments Director at Aitec SGPS, being responsible for analyzing more than 700 projects. He worked as Marketing Director at OutSystems and TIMw.e. where he helped the company expand to more than 90 countries. He was also a Strategic Consultant at Gemini Consulting. Formerly he worked in Banking and Services as Assistant to Chairman, Project Manager and Analyst/Programmer.

Pedro Ludovice Nogueira – Pedro is a business executive with broad experience in all aspects of management, design, branding and supply chain. He has direct experience with health service providers, branding consulting and international logistics. His specialties are: Design, Design Thinking, Service Design, Branding, Digital, Entrepreneurship, Logistics and Presentations.

Sandra Sick – Sandra has worked with over 25 start-up companies in her career with a focus on the marketing strategy and execution. Having managed the marketing departments of a number of well-funded technology start-ups, she then leveraged this experience and created her own marketing consulting firm. Big Planet Marketingfocuses on digital marketing strategies and getting clients in any industry “found”. Also working with non-profits, who share a lot of the same challenges as traditional start-ups, Sandra was the Digital Marketing Strategy Consultant for Stand Up To Cancer and part of the team that helped raise over $80 million for cancer research in the September 2010 telethon. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing from S.U.N.Y. New Paltz in New York and has obtained the Inbound Marketing Certification training from Hubspot.

Sascha Wolff – Sascha Wolff studied political science, philosophy, environmental education and design thinking in Berlin, Potsdam and Bordeaux. He is one of 30 co-founders of the Berlin-based innovation consultancy Dark Horse and in addition worked as lecturer at the HPI School of Design Thinking and the Leuphana University Lüneburg. As an active member of the non-profit association Sozialhelden he co-initiated the Sozialhelden Akademie. Just recently he moved from Berlin to Lisbon always looking for promising projects that allow him to follow his main research interests, the intersections of design thinking and politics, social innovation and solving wicked problems.

Sofia Pessanha – Sofia is a Business manager with 9 years professional experience: 3 in a large corporation, 3 in a start-up and 3 more years doing her own stuff. She trained in Business Management at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and has extensive business, product development, mobile and online, marketing and sales experience. Sofia has worked internationally (in more than 15 countries), from consulting to training, to setting up new offices and business lines.

Susana Branco – Susana Branco is a multi-skilled and very versatile designer. She has a degree in Industrial Design and a Master in Design Futures from Goldsmiths University of London, where she researched “The relationship between designers and power for social innovation”. She is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro, Project Manager at Beta-i and co-founder of Cooperativa Criativa(entity that organizes Service Design Drinks Lisbon, Global JamLisbon, among other projects). She worked in areas including product design, branding, illustration and visualization, research design and highlighting the project done as a Research Designer for the SDE (Samsung Design Europe, London). She has a very positive ‘can-do’ attitude as well as very open-mind to explore new perspectives and find solutions to design problem, challenging her own boundaries of skills and knowledge.

Vincenzo Di Maria – Vincenzo Di Maria is a service designer currently working on projects across Europe. His work focuses on socially responsive design and innovation ranging from products to services and experiences. His approach to design is holistic, playful and people-centred. Vincenzo trained as a designer at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London where he now runs the Service Design short course and collaborates with some other postgraduate courses. He has also been working as design researcher at Design Against Crime Research Centre, CSM Innovation, University of the Arts London. In 2008 Vincenzo co-foundedcommonground, the place where design meets positive social change. commonground works with socially minded organizations to deliver service innovation and user-driven experiences. Vincenzo is a fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, London.

 

Talks:

André Ribeirinho – André Ribeirinho is the Founder and CEO ofAdegga.com, an online Wine Recommendation Service that helps people choose wine. Adegga.com has been considered one of the top online wine platforms in the world and is part of the group of companies that is changing the wine industry. Andre is also Founder and Chief Evangelist of AVIN, an ISBN for wine that helps wineries manage their data online. AVIN codes are used by over 300 wineries around the world and have been printed in over 50 million wine labels. André is a Lisbon based entrepreneur who started his first company when he was 19 years old. André believes in entrepreneurship as a powerful force for freedom, change, value creation and innovation. He is a frequent speaker on the topic of entrepreneurship and bootstrapping in international conferences.

José Pedro Cobra – Lawyer, by the Portuguese Catholic University, postgraded in Legal Business (ISG) and Company Law (UCP). He is currently the Representative for Investor Relations and Corporate Communications of a Portuguese economic group. José Pedro is also a member of the Board of Directors of “Brazelton-Gomes Pedro Foundation for Baby and Family Science.” He practices meditation, pilates and plays football (when the bones permit). With a great sense of humor and assertiveness, José Pedro inspires us and challenges us to take responsibility for who we are and what we do in life and how we can participate actively in a better world.

Pedro Dias Coelho – Pedro Dias Coelho has a degree in Management and has broad experience in International Trade, Industrial Marketing and Management Strategy. He’s Executive Director of ANJE, External Consultant for some Industrial companies and Trainer on Entrepreneurship, Business Plan and Marketing. He has training in Sociodrama by the Portuguese Society of Psychodrama.

Pedro Janela – Managed Interactive Marketing in Portuguese market, for the last 13 years, working with several blue chip companies in the Portuguese Market: BES, Honda, Grupo Pestana, Grupo Portucel Soporcel, Toshiba, ES Saúde, Optimus, Sapo, among many others. Deep knowledge in every field of digital and interactive marketing: Consulting, Web Development, Interactive Advertising, Search Engine, Mobile Development, Social Media, Performance Marketing, CRM and e-mail marketing. Ricardo Diniz – A Portuguese sailor, Ricardo Diniz has travelled the world as a sailor and young entrepreneur. Co-Founder and President of the Portugal Ocean Race, Ricardo is on a mission to create “… the world’s leading around the world yacht race as the ultimate way to communicate Portugal’s incredible maritime and business potential to the world”.

Vasco GasparVasco Gaspar – Vasco Gaspar grew up experimenting with different activities: he created a pirate radio station (Vertigem), performed comedy sketches (TV Fusca), and formed his own rock band (Jazel). Later, as he started his studies, he wanted to be a computer scientist; a doctor; an engineer, but in the end became a psychologist. He developed an online tool, ZorBuddha, to help people to live happier. He believes that it is possible to change the world, but change must start inside each person: the expression of our uniqueness is the true path for spirituality. He’ll talk about happiness and how you can pursuit it by doing what you believe and love!

Vasco Pedro – Vasco is a serial entrepreneur currently leading the development of Flashgroup Portugal, and was the founder of Bueda, a semantic web startup in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Besides his passion for lean startups and bringing ideas to market, he is also an Invited Researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico. His main area of research is in the field of computational semantics. Vasco holds a PhD in Language Technologies from Carnegie Mellon University. Most of his efforts have been focused on large scale semantic analysis and applications to social data.

Clara Fernandes – Clara discovered physical creativity from an early age and put it into practice through classical and contemporary dance in a cycle of 16 years, many of them spent in the School of Dance at the National Conservatory of Lisbon. She is graduated in Marketing and Advertising by IADE and worked for 12 years as marketeer, press officer and producer in television channel TVI. Clara currently works as a consultant / trainer of Personal and Organizational Development at Atitude.

Miguel Borges – Miguel Borges is a Decision Systems Engineer (ISIG) with graduate studies in finance (UCP) and strategic management (IESE – Barcelona/Standford). He is the founder, director, and Yoga professor at Centro Yoga Av. Roma. He started doing Yoga in 1986, became an instructor in 2002, and a professor in 2007. Miguel follows the lineage of Shivánanda (a reference in the history of Yoga) and Vishnu Devánanda (Yoga master appointed by Shivánanda to disseminate Yoga in the West). Miguel is also a social entrepreneur: he founded AMARA(Assoc. Apoio a Doentes Terminais), founded and managed QUANTUM Global Care – Terapias Complementares, promoted the international project Comunidades Autosustentáveis, and the national project Aldeias Portuguesas – recuperadas.
